Daniel Sky (Daniel “Sky” Szczepański) is a Polish-born jazz trumpeter, composer, and educator who has become an active presence on the New York jazz scene. Born in Warsaw in 1993, he began his musical journey on piano at a young age before switching to trumpet in his early teens, where he quickly found his artistic voice. His early training combined classical discipline with a growing fascination for improvisation, which ultimately led him toward jazz. Seeking broader artistic development, he moved to the United States to study at the Berklee College of Music and later the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, where he refined his skills under the mentorship of leading figures such as Danilo Pérez and Joe Lovano.
Now based in New York City, Sky performs regularly as both a bandleader and collaborator, working with artists across generations of jazz, including Benito Gonzalez and Kenny Werner. His musical style blends modern jazz language with Afro-Latin and global rhythmic influences, creating a sound that is both technically sophisticated and emotionally expressive. Known for his warm tone and fluid improvisation, he often integrates traditional acoustic elements with contemporary textures. In addition to performing, he is also dedicated to education, sharing his knowledge through teaching and workshops. His growing discography, including projects like Introduction to the Sky and Songs For The World, reflects a commitment to cultural dialogue and innovation within the jazz tradition.
