World-renowned bassist Jason Clotter will perform at the Polish & Slavic Center at the jazz concert “Lady in Red” May 8 at 7:00 PM , 177 Kent St., Brooklyn, NY

Jason Clotter  is a jazz bassist originally from Puerto Cortés, Honduras, who is now active in the New York City jazz scene—one of the world’s leading hubs for the genre.

He began studying the double bass at age 17 after moving to New York, where he was invited to attend the Celie Cruz Bronx High School of Music. From there, his development accelerated quickly, and he went on to study in respected programs such as the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College and participated in initiatives connected with Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Clotter has built a strong reputation as both a performer and bandleader. He regularly leads his own ensembles (quartet, quintet, trio) and is also known for hosting jam sessions at iconic NYC venues like Smalls Jazz Club. His performance résumé includes appearances at major stages such as Carnegie Hall, Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and international venues like Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.

Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with prominent jazz artists including Samara Joy, Kenny Garrett, Ravi Coltrane, and Wycliffe Gordon, reflecting his integration into the top tier of contemporary jazz musicians.

Artistically, Clotter is rooted in the traditional jazz bass lineage but brings a global perspective shaped by his Honduran background and international performance experience. He has also studied with legendary bassists Ron Carter and Nat Reeves, further grounding his playing in classic jazz tradition.

Today, he continues to perform, tour, and mentor younger musicians, with a stated goal of bringing great jazz music to audiences around the world.
